Jab for weight reduction Wegovy launches in the UK this week as a “controlled and limited launch”.
From September 4, specialised NHS weight management clinics will prescribe semaglutide with a low-calorie diet and exercise.
Eligibility requires a BMI over 30 or 27 and at least one weight-related co-morbidity.
Wegovy was approved for NHS usage by Nice earlier this year. Its instructions advised using it for “maximum” two years.
Novo Nordisk believes the UK introduction of Wegovy “will help provide an additional option to support people living with obesity”.
The Government launched a £40 million experiment to boost obesity-fighting weight-loss shots in June.
